Exhale

.

.

Meeting doodle. It's from Friday's second pitch of show # 454. In the hallowed tradition of the office meeting, I used the medium of cheap ballpoint pen and yellow legal pad + a little bit of post-it note. As a practical bonus, I shot the picture with the phone that I pulled out of my pocket.

Do whatever you can, wherever you happen to be, with whatever you've got in front of you.

     Because fun is everywhere.

Love Bomb

.

.

I've been so busy lately, I haven't had time to do a really big Moleskine spread. But somehow I found a few spare moments to do this particular jumble. Perhaps my time would be better spent if I just got more sleep.

Under Friend

She didn't have much use for actual "fishing", but she loved to go out have a chat with her pen pal.

Hold On

.

.

This tuxedo cat that I'm always drawing…he's based on our cat Booie. Except this cat that I'm always drawing is really skinny, and Booie is a great big tub of goo.

("Booie" is just what his name has morphed into over the years. His real name is Abu Dhabi).

There you go. Now you won't die wondering.

Cold Blooded

Bicycles, cats. What more does one need in life?

Maybe some neutral paper, brown & black ink and some whites for highlights.

Axe Work

.

.

Another train drawing that I did over the break. Such a nice long break from my day job…but did I actually TAKE a break? Nope. I had (and still have) a big freelance job that had me working all through the holidays. S'okay though. Money's good, I chose this job (didn't have to take it), and it's kind of fun.

Spiritually too: the days of freelance are back. That means that the industry is finally back to where it was before the great recession of 2008. Comforting. Hopefully the next downswing in the animation business will be "normal" and nobody starts losing their houses and stuff.

Crazy world. But at least I'm in it.

"Afternoon Miss Prettys"

Oh the places you'll go…in your four wheeled square fish doughnut mobile.

Mailbox

.

.

It's been a busy holiday break, but I did manage to squeeze a few drawings in. This happened (the rough at least) while I was on the train with my bike.

From my house, I can ride downhill (mostly) to the outskirts of downtown Los Angeles. It's a great route down the Arroyo Seco and the funky working-class neighborhoods of "The Avenues".

And from there I can tap $1.50 off of my pre-paid commuter card and hop onto the greatest invention of all mankind: The Gold Line Train. After I wrap my bike up with a bungee cord, I pull out my Moleskine book and an orange pencil and get to work. I've got about 20 minutes to doodle, before the train comes to a final stop at the Sierra Madre station, 15 miles away from, and far above (elevation-wise) my house. Then I put away my Moleskine, un-bungee my bike and ride home.

From the station to my house, I'm going mostly downhill again. But now I'm going through San Marino, which is wealthy and majestic beyond all belief. It is also, I must admit, beautiful at this time of year. Big wide blemish-free streets with Sweet Gum and Gingko trees in their spectacular fall colors.

Next week at this time I'll be back at work, and I'll be riding in again. And that is also a good ride. I'll give you the details of that ride in another post.
